Knowing whether we are saying the right thing when a young person is in need can cause real concern. Many people feel they lack the confidence or skills needed to address mental health issues with the young people they work with.

This course is designed to give you the confidence and skills needed to help anyone that might be struggling.

Training is a mixture of small group work and a lecture style approach and is designed for anyone working with young people who wish to learn more about mental health and how to promote wellbeing in their organisation.

The workshop will include case studies, practical exercises and 'how to' guides.

The course covers:

  • Outline of the current issues young people are facing

  • Listening skills; how to use basic counselling skills to support others

  • The developing teenage brain; what happens in the teenage brain and how it functions

  • Working with self-harm; how to spot the signs and what to do to help

  • Working with low self-esteem; recognising the signs and how to increase it

  • Working with depression; signs, symptoms and how to support someone with depression

  • Working with anxiety; types of anxiety, the impact of anxiety and helping someone with anxiety

  • Working with suicidal thoughts; what to say and where to get additional support
