One in four people suffer from mental ill health at some time in their lives. Individuals often feel poorly equipped to support someone who may be experiencing poor mental health.

Misunderstanding about the condition(s) can result in inappropriate responses, the creation of unsuitable working conditions and a lack of understanding about how to provide solutions to support staff or students should they need time off, or on their return to work or study.

This course is designed to help you feel more confident in recognising and understanding mental health issues and teaches a range of skills that will enable you to respond in the most appropriate way when supporting someone.

Our mental health awareness course is run by expert trainers with over ten years' experience working in the field of mental health.

Training is a mixture of small group work and a lecture style approach and includes handouts and course materials, how to guides and a CPD certificate.

By the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • Have an understanding of what mental health is

  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of the most commonly experienced mental health issues

  • Have an understanding of how mental health issues can impact on work and personal life

  • Use basic counselling and listening skills to help people open up and feel supported

  • Appropriately manage staff or student absence caused by mental health issues

  • Communicate effectively with individuals signed off with mental health issues

  • Support someone in their return to work or study and their integration back into the workplace or education

  • Know how to make reasonable adjustments
