As more people are experiencing mental ill health it is essential that we provide an environment where it is safe to talk about mental health and to understand how early intervention can help with recovery. This course will give you the skills, confidence and knowledge to support someone who is experiencing mental health issues.

The course covers:

  • Stigma and discrimination

  • Depression

  • Suicidal thoughts

  • Anxiety

  • Psychosis

  • Risk factors

  • Mental health in the workplace

Research and evaluation shows that taking part in an MHFA course:

  • Raises awareness and mental health literacy

  • Reduces stigma around mental ill health

  • Boosts knowledge and confidence in dealing with mental health issues

  • Promotes early intervention which enables recovery

The Facilitators:

Angela McMillan is a British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy accredited counsellor (Membership number 031233) and supervisor with over ten years experience working with adults and young people. She has worked for a number of high profile organisations including Childline, Mind, The YMCA and the Terrence Higgins Trust and has run counselling services in sixth form colleges and schools. She  delivers mental health awareness training to organisations across the UK and Wales and teaches emotional literacy and mental health awareness in education and youth organisations. She is an associate Youth Mental Health First Aid instructor and Youth Mental Health First Aid (Wales) Instructor.

Shirish Kulkarni is an award winning journalist with over 20 years' experience working in newsrooms including the BBC, Sky News and ITN. He has a particular interest in mental health and has produced a number of stories which have received worldwide coverage on the mental health of young people
